Did You Know about our support of First Step Home?
On Fulton Avenue, in Walnut Hills, there is a campus setting substance abuse treatment center for women known as First Step Home (FSH) . This organization is part of Church of the Redeemer’s outreach mission. In addition to cooking and serving a Sunday dinner for the women and their children four times a year, we also coordinate with Target at Christmas time to provide gifts and items that they can use.
Many of the women who enter FSH for the first time literally come with only the clothes on their backs. They may have been referred by the judicial system or sometimes family members, or have decided to come on their own. The women arrive at the center sometimes thin and undernourished. Some of these women are also pregnant and need to care for their unborn child. After arriving at the center and being nourished often the clothes they arrived in no longer fit. This year in collaboration with the executive director, we decided to focus on collecting items for the women since many partner organizations are tending to the needs of the children.
Currently, the residents at FSH are in need of twin sized bedding, sweat pants, sweat shirts, leggings, underwear etc. and we'd like to fill their registry with those much needed items.
The process is very simple. Use this link to visit the registry. Peruse the list that FSH has provided, place your order and Target will send your item right to First Step Home. The women will be able to select gifts for themselves to make their Christmas brighter.
We hope that selecting these gifts will also make your Christmas brighter knowing that you are nourishing these women by loving them. Thank you for considering the needs of our friends at FSH this holiday season.
