An important ministry in this parish involves identifying and welcoming people who are new to Redeemer and helping to incorporate them into the life of the community.
The newcomer ministry includes:
Greeters are a first point of contact for newcomers or others needing assistance on Sunday mornings.Volunteers in this ministry will be available in the information station in the lobby for 10 minutes before and after the 10:00 services, and will answer questions or guide newcomers to services and / or childcare locations. After the service, Greeters will answer additional questions, and capture contact information or direct newcomers to our website. Greeters are scheduled every 6 weeks or so, and are generally adults who feel called to help welcome newcomers.
The role of a Newcomer Mentor is to make their newcomer feel welcome at Redeemer and help them become incorporated into our parish family. When a newcomer requests a mentor, a match is made based on simple criteria. The Newcomer Mentor becomes a resource person to answer questions and provide guidance.A mentor could be matched with 1‐2 newcomers a year and each match could take 1‐3 hours over a couple months based on the needs of the newcomer. All parishioners are welcome to be mentors, especially young adults and recent newcomers, who often make great mentors.Through their ministry, mentors enable newcomers to deepen their faith through worship and ministry engagement.
Members of the Newcomer Reception ministry have the opportunity to welcome newcomers who want to learn more about the Redeemer community in an informal setting. Receptions are held quarterly at Redeemer, and members of the Newcomer Reception ministry invite newcomers to attend, coordinate refreshments, set up the reception area, and share their experiences at Redeemer. All parishioners are welcome to join the Newcomer Reception ministry, especially those who are themselves new to Redeemer. It's a great way to form stronger connections with the Redeemer community and to provide a warm welcome to people who are often new to the Cincinnati area, as well as Redeemer.
Tours are provided to newcomers or others interested in a brief introduction to our building.Tour guides should be comfortable speaking to groups, and familiar with our space, and can be older youth or adults. Groups or pairs who want to lead tours together are also welcome! Volunteers will lead a brief tour after the 10:00 services on a scheduled basis.Volunteers are scheduled no more than once per month (usually less), and tours are typically around 45 minutes.
All of our newcomer ministries are a great way to give back and welcome newcomers to our spiritual home.We see God in the warm feedback we receive, and in knowing that people feel welcomed and invited!
