All are invited to travel to Scotland for a pilgrimage to Iona and/or a visit to Edinburgh during our choir's residency week at St. Mary's Cathedral. You may choose to do just one week or both.
The first week is a pilgrimage to Iona led by the Rev. Joyce Keeshin and Dr. L. Brett Scott.
Iona, a sacred island off the West coast of Scotland, is only three miles long. According to geologists, the rocks on Iona are some of the oldest on Earth, some 2.7 billion years old. On these ancient rocks, Columba, the renowned Irish saint, and his fellow monks arrived on Pentecost Day in 563. They discovered a wild and beautiful place battered by strong tides and fierce winds, but also a safe haven where they could anchor their souls and live into the promise of new beginnings.
Learn more about the history of Iona on the Iona Community website.
The second week is focused on Edinburgh and features our Church of the Redeemer Choir in Residence at St. Mary's Cathedral.
This visit includes rehearsal and worship time for the choir, but also side trips to Stirling to visit the castle, the ruins of St. Andrews, and touring of Edinburgh sights (including the castle).
