Young Adult Advent Series
Monday, December 5, 2022, 7:00 PM
Start your week off enjoying your favorite beverage and meaningful conversation with other young adults. On Mondays starting November 28 through December 19th meet at the downstairs large community table of Bean and Barley (Madison Rd.) from 7:00p-8:30p for a Young Adult Advent Study called Making Room.
About the Making Room study:
Advent is a season of hope or a season of darkness; perhaps it is both simultaneously. The church has for generations observed Advent as a time to prepare our hearts and lives to receive the gift of a vulnerable infant, Immanuel, who is the personification of God's love. The study will explore how God moves through the ancient story of Christmas themes of loving our neighbors, welcoming strangers, reaching out to those in need, and encouraging one another in faith. In a world where the darkness of violence, oppression, and greed threatens to overwhelm lives, offering the love of God sheds a light that vanquishes darkness.
Almost everyone has an experience of getting lost, whether it is not knowing one's way out of unfamiliar territory or losing sight of what brings meaning and purpose to one's life. That is why God made humans to be social beings. We need God, and we need each other. When one of us is hurting, others can provide comfort. When one of us rejoices, others can join us in celebration. And when we see the systematic dehumanizing of others, such as when nations or leaders allow hunger, abuse, neglect, and other forms of violence and hate to destroy lives, we are, together, able to do more to overcome this than we would alone, each by ourselves. We are guides for one another, leading back to God's love and a community that puts first those who have been beaten down or forgotten.
