Repair Affair 2023
On Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 8:30am-12:00pm Church of the Redeemer volunteers will join People Working Cooperatively (PWC) for their annual Cincinnati Repair Affair event. Adults and children of all ages are invited to join forces for a fun morning of helping our more vulnerable neighbors prepare for winter with simple leaf raking and gutter cleaning. Easy tasks for most of us but nearly impossible for some of our elderly neighbors.
PWC helps our low income, elderly, and disabled neighbors stay in their own homes. Their mission is “Saving homes, restoring pride.” Most PWC clients own their own homes and have lived in them for many years but can’t afford to maintain them any longer.
And that’s where you come in!
Please consider joining us for a fun family mission project. Kids and parents will benefit from the experience of giving unexpected acts of love to others, by doing the hands-on work!
We’ll gather behind Church at 8:30 am, form crews, have a donut and warm drink then proceed to our destination where we will rake leave, clean gutters, and tidy up outdoor spaces. We’ll finish around noon. Please dress for the weather, bring work clothes/gloves and leaf rakes, and enjoy a beautiful day of service with others.

A word from our PWC Ambassador Keenan Beauchamp:
Why leaves and gutters? Leaf buildup contributes to drainage issues that result in wet, moldy basements in old houses. Cleaning the gutters and raking up the leaves keeps people healthy, and also makes a positive contribution to a homeowner’s neighborhood.
Why join us for Prepare Affair on June 10? It’s a great chance to roll up the sleeves and spend time with our kids and Redeemer friends helping others. The kids and adults both receive a sense of community and giving while we “do the work” ourselves. It’s much quicker and easier to write a check to a worthy cause, but it can be more fun to work together and experience the results.
Kids learn what it means to help our less fortunate neighbors at Repair Affair. A teenage Redeemerite stood with me looking at a PWC client’s house we were working at. He asked, “Why doesn’t she hire someone to fix things up?” I replied, “Brian, she probably lives on about $14,000/year—that’s all she has to pay for everything she needs.” “Oh,” he said. After a thoughtful pause we went to work. That moment stuck with me and I know it did with Brian. He’s still actively volunteering to help others to this day!
