Dementia Inclusive Cincinnati Initiative at Redeemer
Every 3 seconds, someone in the world develops dementia, and it is estimated the number will almost double every 20 years, reaching 131.5 million in 2050. The number is staggering and how to care for people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia is a growing concern across cultures around the world.
The Dementia Inclusive Cincinnati initiative strives to create safe and welcoming places within our community. The Redeemer Health and Wellness Ministry is joining hands with ERS Parish Health Ministry to make churches more dementia inclusive. We will provide education and increase awareness about the needs of people living with dementia. Our goal is to support caregivers too. The education provided will increase parishioners’ confidence on how to respond compassionately to unusual behaviors creating more positive interactions with those living with dementia and their caregivers. Our parish is excited to be a part of this initiative. Stay tuned for upcoming ways to learn and engage! To learn more, contact our Health and Wellness Minister, Becca Morehous or the Rev. Joyce Keeshin, Associate for Pastoral Care or visit our Dementia Inclusive webpage.
