Advent Quiet Day

Be Still and Know...

Advent Quiet Day
Saturday, December 7, 2019
9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Much of our life is guided by information: searching, sending, and judging information. Yet the Christian contemplative path is one of formation… what does it mean to “have the same mind that was in in Christ Jesus”? What might it mean to know the experience of “our love becoming rich” enough to teach us “what is vital”? What does it mean for us to anticipate, with our whole selves, the revelation of God-with-us?

Begin this Advent with a day of rest and recovery of our called self. With the help of facilitator, the Rev. Troy Bronsink, we will explore the contemplative tradition, experience some new and old contemplative practices, and take time and space – amidst the gathering holiday frenzy – space in which God can act where our minds and bodies are not preoccupied.

Advent Quiet Day Schedule

  • Welcome
  • Session One: The Mind of Christ - Noting our thoughts, feelings, and sensations
  • Breath Prayer and Journaling
  • Session Two: The Body of Christ: Letting Our Life Speak
  • Walking Meditation
  • Lunch
  • Session Three: The Mystery of Incarnation - Letting Go into Mystery
  • Prayer Options: Yoga, Centering Prayer Lesson, Self-directed (Drawing, Resting, etc.)
  • Closing: Celebration of Gifts and Sending

About the Facilitator:

The Rev. Troy Bronsink founded the Hive in spring of 2016 with a desire to collaborate with facilitators from various traditions and backgrounds, making space for transformative individual and group encounters. He brings 25 years of experience in small group facilitation ranging from corporate consulting to community organizing, to spiritual formation. Through the Hive, Troy has developed the curriculum for The Common Good Fellowship, as well as hosting the weekly podcast, From the Hive, interviewing local and global contemplative leaders about their work and practice. Troy is a member of The Living School (Fr. Richard Rohr), an ordained Presbyterian minister, retreat leader, author, spiritual director, entrepreneurship coach, speaker, mixologist, musician, and consultant. He and his family live in the neighborhood of Northside.

There is no cost for the day, but we do ask that you register below so that we can know how many to anticipate. Also, please indicate which of the Prayer Options, shown above and offered in the afternoon, you would prefer. This will also help us prepare the materials and space for this time.

LEARN MORE

We love children, and children love Redeemer!

Children are at the heart of life at Redeemer. Children learn about the word of God through our Children's Christian Education programs; they are involved in worship services, they play music in our services, and they form lifelong friendships with each other through their experiences.

LEARN MORE

On Sundays we have 4 services: at 8 AM we have what's known as Rite I Holy Eucharist, which is a spoken service. At 10 AM we have a Traditional Rite II Holy Eucharist in our Sanctuary, and at the same time we have a Contemporary Rite II service in a space we call the Great Hall. At 5 PM, we have a Celtic Holy Eucharist in the Chapel.

On Wednesdays, we offer a Rite II Holy Eucharist at 6:00 PM.

Our invitation to you is to join us as we grow in faith and reach out in love to others. At Redeemer we are always seeking to know Jesus and grow in love. We hope that in whatever ministries you undertake will strengthen your relationship with him through your ministry and fellowship here.

Donate

Flowers in our holy worship spaces are a beautiful gift to God and those who attend services at Church of the Redeemer as well as those being honored or remembered. A contribution to the Flower Fund is a meaningful way to honor or remember a loved one for special life events such as birthdays, anniversaries, baptisms, confirmations, thanksgivings, or in memory of a loved one.

Donate

The Church of the Redeemer is blessed to have received special gifts from parishioners who wanted Redeemer to have permanent savings to care for our facilities and to supplement our pledge income.

Such permanent savings are often called an “endowment.” The endowed funds are permanently set aside by donors or by the Vestry. Some of our donors have specified uses for their endowment gifts. A limited portion of the funds is distributed each year to supplement our general budget. All funds are invested with professional advice.

LEARN MORE

If you are a part of the Redeemer community, we believe you are here for a reason. We believe that God brought us all here, brought us all together. We have been brought together by the Holy Spirit to be loved, and to love the world and people God has created.

What about your connection to Redeemer changes the way you live in this world? Your financial commitment is a response to the work that God is doing with you here. Your pledge is a practical way to ensure that others are able to experience the relationships of holy connection and communion that are shaping your life.
