Advent: The Season of Active Listening
Check out the Advent Table in the Narthex (Lobby) this Sunday where you will find tools to celebrate Advent. These include a daily devotional book from Forward Movement, CDs with Advent music playlists, a creative Advent calendar (as shown in the video above), an Advent coloring book, invitations to Advent events at Redeemer to share with your family and friends, and suggestions for online daily devotions to help celebrate the season of active waiting. A waiting of hope that does justice. A waiting for peace that forgives freely. A waiting for joy that is merciful. A waiting for love that loves your neighbor as yourself. Join us for the season of Advent as we count down the days until God’s new world is born on Christmas Eve.
Join us on Sunday, December 2 at 5:00 pm for our Advent Lessons & Carols worship service. On Christmas Eve in 1918, Eric Milner-White, Dean of King's College, Cambridge, offered a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols to the city of Cambridge. The service has since become a worldwide holiday tradition. The success of the Christmas Eve service prompted Milner-White to craft a service of Advent Lessons and Carols for the first Sunday of Advent in 1934. Our own service is adapted from this form, and it calls to mind through word and song the joyful expectation of Advent.
