Welcome to the 2007-2008 Spiritual Formation Guide for children and teens! You will find information on opportunities available at Redeemer for our younger parishioners. It is organized by age and provides information for each level on the curriculum, teachers and time and place the group will meet. This information is important for the whole community to be aware of in order to fulfill the Great Commission to spread the Good News to all people. A significant change that you will note as you read is the absence of the term “Church School.” The more current and accurate term for what we do on Sunday mornings is spiritual formation. Spiritual formation refers to the life-long process of transformation into the likeness of Christ. There is no beginning and no end to this process. We are each continually being transformed through God’s grace into the person we were created to be. This grace isn’t something you can know by merely learning about it. This grace must be experienced through body, mind and spirit in order to be transformative. It is through intimate, spiritual relationships nurtured in community over time that we are formed into the disciples God calls us to be.

We have also made some minor changes to the Sunday morning schedule for this program year, the biggest being the relocation of the Godly Play classrooms for preschool through 2nd grade. They will now meet on the upper level in one of the Redeemer Preschool classrooms. This will enable various classes to enjoy longer sessions, greater continuity with teachers, and a larger space, while actually requiring fewer volunteers. All good things! Another program enhancement is adding our 3rd and 4th graders to the Godly Play program. New Godly Play stories meant for those experienced in Godly Play will be introduced. These stories will be told along with the more familiar stories allowing the children and teachers to create deeper meaning in their spiritual lives.

The most important thing that happens on Sunday morning is building of community through worship and formation. It is through this intentional spiritual community that our children are given the opportunity to experience God. The most important thing we can do is show up and participate. Please use this pages to see how you can support the spiritual lives of our children and teens!
