Tips for Godly Play Parents

Also known as The Ten Best Ways for Parents

1. Godly Play sessions take place on Sunday mornings beginning September 9. We will meet in one of the Redeemer Preschool classrooms on the third level of the building.
2. Please help your children be on time. They won’t want to miss a minute!
3. Please help your child attend on a regular basis.
4. The Godly Play circle is built slowly and lovingly to welcome each child, one at a time. When children arrive they wait outside the door while the doorperson helps them get ready to join the circle.
5. Please say your goodbyes at the door and know that the teachers are ready to make each Godly Play session a safe and welcoming time for every child.
6. When you pick up your child, keep in mind that young children will not always be able to tell you what they learned because what they learned was how to learn about the powerful language of the Christian people.
7. Also keep in mind that children will not always be able to show you a physical product of their “work” that day because some of what they’ve learned cannot be put into words, even by adults. In Godly Play we focus on our relationship with God and the depths of relationships in the community of children.
8. The classrooms are a special place for the community of children. The number of adults in the classroom is kept to a minimum, and while in the classroom, all adults are encouraged to maintain a low profile. We would be happy to welcome you on a visit to the Godly Play room outside of the session time. Contact the Director or one of the storytellers to arrange a visit.
9. Look for the Parent Page each week. This will give you an overview of the story your child heard, background information on Godly Play and ways to engage in the process outside of the classroom.
10. We welcome volunteers to support the program by engaging in one of the following ministries: storyteller, doorperson, feast preparer, room set-up, room clean-up. Please contact Kelli Jasper for more information or to begin serving in this ministry.
