A sacristan is rather like the ringmaster in a three-ring circus. They supervise all lay participants in a given worship service. It is the sacristan's responsibility to ascertain that all lay participants scheduled are present and ready to serve. In many ways the sacristan ensures that all details of the service flow smoothly.
